Apple Music beta 4.0 for Android features new Favorites, music updates and more

Code found in Apple Music beta 4.0 for Android revealed new features coming to the app like Favorites, music updates, and more. The latest update of Apple Music for Android will bring the app to par with its iOS 16 version expected to launch in September.

Previously, Apple Music for Android introduced two redesigned widgets for Home Screen with customized artwork and color theme in the background on iOS 15.4. It also included a reference to the new standalone “Apple Classical” app.

Apple Music 4.0 for Android will offer new ways to listen to favorite artists

Discovered by 9to5Google, the latest beta version of Apple Music for Android includes three new features for subscribers to listen to their favorite artists.

  • Favorites feature will allow users to get better recommendations from the artists by favorite by tapping on the star icon.
  • Favorites row in Listen Now will let users easily revisit the artist they favorite
  • Music Updates will show new releases from the users’ favorite artists via push notifications.

You can star from the top-right corner of artist pages to “hear about upcoming new releases” rather than just being subject to the whim of the existing notification system. Favoriting will also improve recommendations.

  • New organization options for playlists will enable users to sort their playlists by order, title, artist, album, or release date.

The report also mentions that Apple Music 4.0 beta also contains more references to the upcoming “Apple Classical” app which is still not available on iOS and Android.

Apple acquired Primephonic, a classic music streaming service in August 2021, and announced that Apple Music subscribers would be able to enjoy “an improved classical music experience beginning with Primephonic playlists and exclusive audio content.”

Later Bloomberg reported that the Primephonic would be turned into an app tied to Apple Music that year, likely in iOS 15.4.

Earlier this year, Apple also acquired “Al Music”, a London-based startup that uses AI (artificial intelligence) to create “tailor-made” soundtracks using royalty-free music to suit users’ moods and needs. It is said that the new technology can be used across the tech giant’s audio offerings.
