Apple’s hybrid return-to-work goes into effect for corporate employees

Apple corporate employees arrived at offices almost after two years under a new hybrid plan, starting on April 11. After canceling the return-to-office plan for corporate staff multiple times since June 2021, the tech giant has finally mandated in-person work this week.

Starting with two days a week in April, Apple will require corporate staff to work from the office for three days a week in May

Previously, Apple CEO Tim Cook announced that corporate staff will be returning to offices in April this year at the Q1, 2022 earnings call, and later, employees were informed of the decision in a memo that acknowledged in-person work might be a big change for some staff members and asked the staff to support each other in making that transition. Cook wrote:

“For many of you, I know that returning to the office represents a long-awaited milestone and a positive sign that we can engage more fully with the colleagues who play such an important role in our lives. For others, it may also be an unsettling change.”

“In the coming weeks and months, we have an opportunity to combine the best of what we have learned about working remotely with the irreplaceable benefits of in-person collaboration. It is as important as ever that we support each other through this transition, through the challenges we face as a team and around the world.”

When Apple announced its hybrid return-to-office plan in 2021, the company receive a lot of pushback from employees. Saying that remote work is beneficial for physical and mental health, employees asked for a more flexible remote work policy like Facebook and Google’s.

Perhaps, the widely leaked information about future products and plans like iPhone 12, HomePod mini, AirPods, Podcasts Subscription, and other products, made the tech giant insist on the hybrid system which has gone into effect. Having said that, the company has shown flexibility to allow employees to smoothly and gradually make the transition from remote to in-person work routines.

As per the new hybrid return-to-work policy, employees will have to work from the office twice per week from April 11 till May 20, and employees will have to work from the office thrice a week, Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday from May 23 onwards.
