Instagram adds new features for Reels creators like stickers, cross-post on Facebook and more

Instagram has introduced new “Add Yours” stickers to Reels/videos, cross-post a Reel from Instagram to Facebook, and more. As announced by the company’s head Adam Mosseri, the new features are designed to make it easier to create and share their Reels for video creators on the platform.

To compete with TikTok, Instagram has been making a very conscious effort to lean into videos. In 2020, the company launched Reels for video creation and sharing on the platform and since then has been updating Reels with more TikTok-like features: songs, filters, and others.

However, the company faced strong backlash recently for blatantly copying TikTok’s full-screen UI design and pushing recommendations and it rolled back the changes. Now, Instagram has added new features to promote videos on the app which are not inspired by TikTok.

Here are the 3 new features for Reels creators on Instagram

Crosspost Reels to Facebook

Creators who have accounts on Instagram and Facebook can now crosspost Reels on both platforms at the same time. Now, when a user will create an Instagram Reel, a new prompt will ask them if they want to share the Reel on Facebook. After opting in crossposting, all Reels will be posted on both platforms, automatically unless the user changes the settings.

Previously, cross-post capability to Facebook was available for Instagram pictures, and Stories.

“Add Yours” stickers

The popular “Add Yours” stickers are now available on Reels. Mosseri explained that the stickers in videos can inspire other users to create their own videos and start a trend. If a trend goes viral, an attribution link will be added to the sticker to give the creator credit for starting that trend. “A little link to your profile that will show up on the sticker, which you can turn off if you like.”

New insights for Reels on Facebook

To better analyze Reels’ performance on Facebook, new insights are introduced to monitor total watch time, reach, average watch time, and other metrics and expand monetization.

Earlier, Meta launched the Reels monetization program to reward creators for their craft which includes insights, cash bonuses, and more.

In the announcement post on Twitter, Mosseri said that if video creators want to see other features related to Reels on the app, they should comment on the post and the company would get to them.
