Launch of iPhone SE 4 in 2024 might be postponed or cancelled – Kuo

Rumors about the iPhone X-like design and expected features of Apple’s next-generation iPhone SE 4 have been circulating on the internet for the past few months. Now, the tech analyst Ming-Chi Kuo reports that Apple is considering canceling or at least delaying the mass production of its entry-level iPhone.

iPhone SE 4 might be shelved over weak sales concerns

In his new Twitter thread, Kuo expressed doubts about the launch of the fourth-generation iPhone SE in 2024. He said that the tech giant may delay or cancel the iPhone SE 4 due to continuous lower-than-expected shipments of mid-tier and low-end smartphones like the previous iPhone SE 3, the iPhone 13 mini, and the iPhone 14 Plus.

Kuo also added that the full-screen design for iPhone SE 4 will require higher costs and selling prices, so Apple may reconsider the product positioning and return on investment for the iPhone SE 4. Removing the unnecessary product development costs to help the company navigate the challenges of the global economic recession this year.

Thus, Apple would either scrap the iPhone or delay its launch beyond 2024.

Previous reports from industry sources and leakers claim that iPhone SE 4 would come with a 6.1-inch LCD or OLED display, and a notch for FaceID authentication. But display analyst, Ross Young said that the company had not finalized iPhone SE 4’s display either to an OLED or LCD display.

However, it is expected that Apple would not continue with the 5.4-inch iPhone size due to weak sales of the iPhone 12 mini and iPhone 13 mini models. The latest affordable iPhone 14 Plus has also seen lower-than-expected sales. Because of all the reasons stated above, the tech giant may instead focus on its flagship iPhone in 2023 and 2024 and may push development on the ‌iPhone SE‌ which would be equipped with cheaper components to keep its price low.
