The latest macOS Sonoma 14.5 update caters directly to Apple News+ users, bringing a brand new word game and enhanced puzzle tracking features. With macOS Sonoma 14.5, Apple has introduced a new word game called Quartiles exclusively for Apple News+ subscribers. Additionally, a new scoreboard in News+ Puzzles now provides access to player data for Crossword, Mini Crossword, and Quartiles, including stats and streaks. From the release notes:

In addition to introducing new features, macOS Sonoma 14.5 offers several bug fixes and security enhancements. Some of the notable fixes include:

  • Fix for an issue where users might not be able to approve or decline a FaceTime link call due to notifications not being received on the caller’s side.
  • Fix for an issue where macOS might launch the wrong version of (Designed for iPad) apps after double-clicking the icon or after building from Xcode.
  • The update includes nearly two dozen security patches, including several that may lead to arbitrary code execution.

How to install macOS Sonoma 14.5

This latest macOS software update is compatible with the following Mac models:

  • Mac mini (2018 and later)

Before you attempt to update to macOS Sonoma 14.5, make sure your Mac has at least 50% battery life and is connected to a reliable Wi-Fi network.

  1. Open System Settings.
  2. Click General.
  3. Click Software Update.
  4. Click Update Now.
  5. Your Mac will download the update.
  6. When the update is complete, your Mac will restart.
