Vodafone has officially passed a major milestone, announcing that it has connected over 200 million Internet of Things (IoT) devices to its global network. The landmark device—a remote healthcare monitor—highlights the growing role of IoT in sectors where real-time data can be lifesaving.
The remote monitor, used for tracking cardiac health and vital signs, reflects how IoT is transforming patient care by enabling healthcare providers to access critical information without in-person consultations. It also demonstrates the increasing trust in connected technology to deliver consistent, actionable insights across sensitive fields.
This milestone represents a doubling of Vodafone’s IoT connections over the past five years. Germany accounts for more than a quarter of this growth, signaling strong demand for connected solutions within the European market. This surge has been driven by businesses seeking to improve operational efficiency, enhance asset tracking, and derive value from real-time data.
Vodafone’s IoT reach spans a wide range of industries. In South Africa, the technology supports logistics operations by monitoring coal flow from hundreds of mines. In Europe, Vodafone-powered IoT devices are aiding environmental management efforts—detecting leaks in water networks and even identifying early signs of wildfires.
Sustainability has also emerged as a core benefit of IoT adoption. Vodafone estimates that more than 50% of its IoT connections help clients cut carbon emissions. This includes initiatives like smart energy monitoring in buildings, optimization of traffic systems to reduce congestion, and automation of national energy grids for better demand-response management.
Marika Auramo, CEO of Vodafone Business, emphasized the impact of this achievement, noting how the company’s infrastructure enables thousands of enterprises and public institutions in over 180 countries. From industrial automation to sensor-based logistics, Vodafone’s network continues to be a foundational layer for digital transformation.
Erik Brenneis, CEO of Vodafone IoT, described the achievement as a pivotal moment for the company, attributing the success to continued innovation and the drive of its global teams. He also highlighted that this milestone marks the beginning of Vodafone’s push into the “hyperscale” era of IoT, where billions of devices will be part of a globally connected ecosystem.
This growth is fueling the rise of the Economy of Things—a future where machines not only communicate with each other but also transact autonomously in secure digital environments. With its extensive infrastructure and proven capabilities, Vodafone is positioning itself at the forefront of this new wave of economic and technological evolution.
As physical assets become smarter and more connected, Vodafone’s expanding IoT network will continue to shape how industries operate, how services are delivered, and how societies interact with technology. The 200 million connection mark is not just a statistic—it’s a signal of what’s next.
